Bineeth Kuriakose
Postdoctoral fellow at OsloMet
I am a postdoctoral researcher at Oslo Metropolitan University working at the intersection of Artificial Intelligence and investigative journalism. My research focuses on developing and evaluating AI-driven methods that support journalists in analyzing large and complex data sources, with particular emphasis on transparency, accountability, and human-centered design. I hold a PhD in the interdisciplinary field of Artificial Intelligence and Human-Computer Interaction from OsloMet. My academic background includes a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science and Engineering and a Master’s degree in Computer Science, where I specialized in Computer Vision. Following my PhD, I worked as a Data Science Researcher at the Department of Education at the University of Oslo, where I explored the application of AI in learning analytics to better understand and address student dropout in higher education. In recognition of my contributions to socially relevant interdisciplinary research, I was awarded the OsloMet Prize for Promising Researcher in 2025.

My current postdoctoral research is situated at the intersection of Artificial Intelligence and investigative journalism. I focus on designing and evaluating AI-driven methods and computational tools that support journalists in analyzing large, complex, and heterogeneous data sources. The work emphasizes transparency, accountability, and human-centered design, ensuring that AI systems augment journalistic practice rather than obscure it. By combining machine learning, natural language processing, and data visualization with critical perspectives on ethics and societal impact, my research contributes to strengthening democratic processes and public trust in digital information ecosystems. Through this work, I aim to advance responsible AI innovation in media contexts and develop practical, research-based solutions that enhance investigative capacity in the digital age.
