About the seminar

This seminar gives you practical tools to turn your message into clear, engaging stories that captivate your audience.

If you're preparing for a conference, writing a popular science piece, applying for funding, or going for a job interview, storytelling is a powerful tool. It helps you reach your audience— experts, non-experts, academics, non-academics, or potential employers—and makes your message memorable.

Led by Vibeke Holtskog, an experienced rhetorician and educator, this course will equip you with storytelling techniques to structure and communicate your message with clarity and confidence. Vibeke’s approach draws on rhetoric, presentation skills, and storytelling.

You’ll learn:

  • To structure and communicate a compelling narrative around your research and your journey as a researcher

  • The importance of storytelling for connecting with your audience in research presentations, lectures, and job interviews

  • Techniques to connect with diverse audiences and make your message resonate – in academic and non-academic contexts

  • Practical advice on structure, delivery, and body language to enhance your presentations

Programme

The content and format of the workshop will be adapted based on the group’s size, background, and needs. In advance of the event, you’ll be invited to answer a few short (and anonymous) questions.

Accommodation and Travel

DIGIT can cover accommodation for the night of 18 August and travel expenses for participants who would otherwise be unable to arrive in time for the seminar.
