Tatenda Chikweya

PhD fellow at Nord University

Before moving to Norway for my PhD, I studied in Sweden at Mälardalens University where I obtained a MSc in Innovation & Design. In my master thesis, I investigated how VR use is governed in SMEs and this interest in the governance of new technology has carried over to my PhD. At Nord Business School, I am situated in the Digital Management and Marketing research group where we study human-AI collaboration, digital virtual experiences, and the integration of AI within public and private sectors.

Recent high profile scandals involving the use of AI in the public sector have resulted in calls for transparent and robust governance frameworks to regulate AI use. This research seeks to investigate how artificial intelligence (AI) governance is understood and operationalized within public sector organizations, with a focus on identifying and governing context specific AI risks and ensuring compliance with emerging regulatory frameworks such as the EU AI Act. Drawing on socio-technical perspectives, this project studies how governance is constructed through the interaction of technology and the public organization.

Methodologically, the research combines a structured literature review with empirical case studies of public sector organisations implementing AI methods. Expected contributions to theory is a conceptual model linking socio-technical, affordances and institutional dynamics in AI governance.
